The Britool Hallmark 3 Piece Extending Flex-Head Ratchet Set provides a versatile selection of professional ratchets for automotive servicing, mechanical engineering and general workshop use.

Containing 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive ratchets, the set covers the three most commonly used square-drive sizes in a single organised tool kit. Each ratchet combines a 72-tooth mechanism, pivoting flex-head and adjustable extending handle, making the set particularly useful when access around a fastener is restricted.

The fine 72-tooth mechanism requires only limited handle movement between engagements, helping the user operate the ratchet in confined areas where a conventional coarse-tooth ratchet may have insufficient room to work.

For further versatility, each head can pivot through approximately 180 degrees, allowing the handle to be positioned at different angles around surrounding components. The handles can also be extended to provide additional reach when accessing recessed or awkwardly positioned fasteners.

All three ratchets feature a convenient socket release button for secure socket retention and quick changes between compatible sockets.

The set is supplied in dedicated EVA tool control foam, providing professional storage and straightforward integration into a toolbox or roll cab drawer.

Ratchets Included

The set provides three different drive sizes to cover a broad range of professional hand-tool applications:

  • 1/4" Drive Ratchet – suited to smaller fasteners, compact sockets and restricted working areas
  • 3/8" Drive Ratchet – a versatile general-purpose size for automotive servicing and mechanical repairs
  • 1/2" Drive Ratchet – suitable for larger sockets and more substantial general workshop fasteners

Together, these three drive sizes provide a practical ratchet selection for mechanics, technicians, engineers and other professional workshop users.

Adjustable Ratchet Lengths

Each ratchet incorporates an extending handle, allowing its overall length to be adjusted according to the available working space and required reach.

  • 1/4" Drive: approximately 173mm closed and 223mm extended
  • 3/8" Drive: approximately 246mm closed and 346mm extended
  • 1/2" Drive: approximately 346mm closed and 486mm extended

This adjustable design can be especially useful when reaching fasteners located deeper inside an engine bay, machinery or mechanical assembly.

The extending function is intended primarily to provide improved reach and access. It should not be used to apply excessive additional torque.

Fine 72-Tooth Mechanism

All three ratchets feature a 72-tooth drive mechanism.

The fine-tooth construction reduces the amount of handle movement required between engagement positions. This makes the ratchets particularly useful where bodywork, engine components, machinery or other obstructions restrict the available working arc.

It also provides smooth, controlled ratchet operation for repetitive fastening and removal tasks.

180-Degree Flexible Head

A conventional fixed-head ratchet can be difficult to position when a fastener is obstructed or located at an awkward angle.

The Britool Hallmark flex-head design pivots through approximately 180 degrees, allowing the user to alter the angle between the handle and socket.

Combined with the adjustable handle length, this gives the user considerably more positioning flexibility when working around components or accessing recessed fasteners.

Quick Socket Release

An integrated socket release button provides convenient removal of compatible sockets from the square drive.

The retaining system helps keep the socket securely attached during normal operation while allowing fast socket changes when moving between different fastener sizes.

Professional Automotive & Mechanical Use

This versatile Britool Hallmark ratchet set is suitable for applications including:

  • Professional automotive servicing
  • Vehicle repair and maintenance
  • Engine bay work
  • Engine and drivetrain servicing
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Machinery maintenance
  • Professional garages
  • Fleet workshops
  • Industrial maintenance
  • Engineering workshops
  • Restricted-access fastening
  • General workshop repairs

The combination of three drive sizes, flexible heads and adjustable handle lengths makes the set particularly useful where technicians regularly encounter fasteners in different positions and working spaces.

Individual Ratchets & Repair Kits

Each ratchet is individually marked with the Britool Hallmark logo and its own part reference, making identification straightforward.

The 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive ratchets are also available individually, allowing users to purchase a particular drive size separately or replace an individual ratchet without purchasing another complete set.

Repair kits are also available for the ratchet mechanisms, allowing appropriate servicing and maintenance when required.

EVA Tool Control Foam Storage

The complete set is supplied neatly organised in EVA tool control foam.

Each ratchet has its own designated position, providing tidy storage and making it easy to identify the required drive size when working.

The foam format is designed for convenient placement within a compatible professional toolbox or roll cab drawer and makes missing tools easier to identify at the end of a job.

The Britool Hallmark Range

The Britool Hallmark range was developed by Britool in the 1980s for the automotive aftermarket and has been a long-established choice for professional workshop users.

Each tool carries distinctive Britool Hallmark branding, providing clear identification and reflecting the professional tooling heritage of the range.

The Britool Hallmark guarantee covers defects in materials and/or workmanship when tools are used for the purpose for which they were designed and for their expected service life.

The guarantee does not extend to fair wear and tear, moving parts such as ratchet mechanisms, or consumable items such as bits and repair kits.

Correct Use of Extending Ratchets

The extending handles are designed to provide additional reach and improved access, particularly where a fastener is recessed or surrounding components prevent comfortable use of the ratchet at its shortest length.

The extending mechanism should not be used to generate excessive leverage on extremely tight or seized fasteners. Excessive torque may damage the ratchet or extending mechanism and may invalidate the manufacturer's guarantee.

For initial loosening of particularly tight, seized or corroded fasteners, use an appropriately rated breaker bar / power bar before changing to the ratchet for faster removal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which drive sizes are supplied in this Britool Hallmark extending ratchet set?
This professional set includes 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" square drive flex-head ratchets, providing three of the most commonly used drive sizes in one collection. The 1/4" drive is useful for smaller fasteners and restricted spaces, the 3/8" provides versatile general-purpose coverage, while the 1/2" drive is suited to larger automotive and mechanical hand-socket applications.
Why do these ratchets use a 72-tooth mechanism?
A 72-tooth mechanism provides a fine 5-degree working arc, meaning relatively little handle movement is required between engagements. This makes the ratchets particularly useful in engine bays, machinery and restricted spaces where surrounding components prevent a conventional ratchet from moving through a larger arc.
How does the flexible ratchet head improve access?
The head of each ratchet can pivot through approximately 180 degrees, allowing the handle to be positioned at a range of working angles. Combined with the adjustable handle length, this provides excellent versatility when approaching awkward, recessed or obstructed nuts and bolts during automotive servicing and mechanical repairs.
What are the adjustable lengths of the three ratchets?
The 1/4" drive ratchet adjusts from approximately 173mm to 223mm, the 3/8" drive from 246mm to 346mm, and the 1/2" drive from 346mm to 486mm. Extending the handle can provide valuable additional reach where a fastener is positioned deeper within an engine bay, machinery or mechanical assembly.
Is the extending handle intended for loosening extremely tight fasteners?
The adjustable handle is principally designed to improve reach, access and working position, rather than to provide excessive additional leverage. If a nut or bolt is extremely tight, seized or corroded, an appropriately rated breaker bar / power bar should be used for the initial loosening rather than placing excessive load on the ratchet or extending mechanism.
Are replacement parts available for the ratchet mechanisms?
Yes. Repair kits are available for the ratchet mechanisms, helping professional users maintain the tools when mechanism servicing becomes necessary. The individual 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive ratchets are also available separately, allowing a particular drive size to be purchased or replaced without replacing the complete three-piece set.
